 Chocolate Chip – Certified organic

Good day, here is your cookie for today. OK, here is how this works. Each post like this from now on, will start with some kind of cookie. The cookies are FREE and obviously imaginary. Being such, it is up to you to accept it or not. It is up to you to determine what the ingredients are. You must do your own research. Each cookie is offered as is and with no strings attached. Once you accept my cookie, it becomes your cookie and your responsibility. I’m out of the loop so don’t even think about complaining or raining down a lawsuit.

If you do not like cookies or the flavor of the day, then there are three choices:

   1. Do not accept it
   2. Change it to something you do like
   3. Give it to someone else

The Flavor of the Day

Would you like to save money on gasoline? Would you spend around $30 if you could get back around a $100 and probably more? Is this a good deal; is it a good investment?

We humans require air, but not everything we breathe in, is oxygen. In fact, only around 21% is oxygen, 1% is water vapor and other gases and 78% is nitrogen. Oxygen is flammable, expands and contracts, is subject to temperature fluctuations, and can actually break down metal and rubber. This is called oxidation and can clearly be shown by cutting an apple in half. Right before your eyes you will see the cut apple begin to turn brown. With all the benefits of oxygen, there are also some disadvantages, especially to your tires, gas mileage and your expenses. What is usually found in tires? The answer is, compressed air.

Compressed air contains the same kind of air we breathe, 21% oxygen, 1% water vapor and other gases, and 78% nitrogen.

Did you know that tires filled with compressed air can and have exploded, bursting into flames? What does fire really love? Fire needs oxygen. Have you ever been to a hospital and seen oxygen outlets on the wall of a patient room? Have you ever read the notice that reads something like this: Caution Extremely Flammable!

Due to the volatile nature of oxygen, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), requires by law, that all commercial airlines must replace tires filled with compressed air with what? If your guess was nitrogen you are pretty smart and absolutely correct! Taking off and landing a plane produces heat in the tires. Flying at around 30,000 feet, the outside temperature is COLD. Have you ever looked out the window of a plane and seen frost on the window? The point is, temperature causes expansion and contraction. Tires expand and contract and so does the air inside of them. Oxygen, water and other materials in compressed air can also break down rubber and metal.

NASCAR racing teams all use bottled nitrogen for safety, but mostly to control TIRE PRESSURE. We all understand that proper tire inflation will give us greater control and safety while driving, but proper inflation also, SAVES GAS and improves miles per gallon (mpg), for each gallon of gas used. How often do we check our tires inflation? If you do regularly good for you, but I will guess that you have to put more in from time to time and not take out air. This is because air actually dissipates in tires. Nitrogen does not expand like oxygen, is not flammable like oxygen, and does not lose its pressure in tires like oxygen. This is good news especially for us that do not check our tire pressure regularly.

Now here is your cookie for today. Fill your tires with nitrogen!

Right now, there are over 9,000 places across the USA that will do just that. Perhaps you live in an area that has either a Costco or Dunn Tires location. Go see them!

Don’t take my word for it, check either Costco, Dunn Tires or:

http://www.getnitrogen.org/

For around $30 TOTAL COST, Dunn Tires will install a special valve stem for each of your tires, remove the compressed air, properly inflate your tires with nitrogen and fill them up for FREE, anytime you need it. If you are traveling and cannot find a place that has nitrogen, it’s OK to still use compressed air. Just remember which tire or tires you did this with and get it or them purged and refilled with nitrogen for FREE, as soon as it becomes available. Their recommendation is to refill your tires about every 5,000 miles which is around the same time as your second oil change at every 3,000 miles.

Here is your possible savings. Lets say gas is $4 per gallon and to fill your tank you need 13 gallons. 4 X 13 = 52  X 52 weeks = $2,704.00 per year for fuel. Tires properly inflated with nitrogen will save between 3 – 5% on gas. Using the above figures, 3% would be around $80 in savings [spend 30 get back $50]. 5% would be around $135 savings. Add 80 + 135 / 2 = on average, $100 saved, exactly what I said, spend 30 and get back $100. This is about 1tank or 1 ½ tanks of FREE  gas. Is this worth $30 to you? If you buy your tires from Dunn, you can even save the $30. I have not even mentioned the fact that nitrogen will help the environment (use less gas = pollute less), or how much longer, your tires might actually last. Hmmm, that sounds like saving money to me, Pretty good cookie?
